Waterbath and Pressure Canning (Tuesday)

Time: 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Roll up your sleeves and join the fun! Class includes basic instructions for both canning methods in one evening-one class. Learn about canning tools/utensils, it’s safety, it’s history & the difference between high/low acid foods. Take home a jar of carrots and a jar of bread & butter pickles. Please secure long hair. Bring a towel to class to take hot jars home. All materials included.

Pam has been canning for family and friends for over 20 years.  She has been teaching both waterbath and pressure canning here at Dover Adult for the past 2 years.  She is an avid vegetable gardener and a honey bee keeper.

Raspberry Jam - Waterbath Canning

Tuition: $40.00 Dover Residents: $35.00

Date: Tuesday, October 29, 2019

Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us and learn about the process using lower temperature for acidic foods (i.e. tomatoes and fruits), safety, history, and canning tools/utensils. Students will take home a jar of jam. All materials included. Long hair must be secured. Please bring a hand towel to class.

Kate is a retired classroom teacher with over 26 years experience.  She has 40 plus year canning experience with water bath and pressure canning.  Kate was the canning department superintendent for the Rochester Fair for over 10 years.  Kate and her husband, Dan, have entered their canning in many local fairs.  Her triple berry jam won first place in a local taste testing contest.

Chicken/Vegetable Soup - Pressure Canning

Tuition: $40.00 Dover Residents: $35.00

Time: 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

There is nothing like a hearty, warm soup on a damp cool day or when you are in a hurry. You can preserve your own favorite recipes once you learn the basic instructions for pressure canning. You will be taken through each step of the process and take home a quart of delicious chicken soup. You will also get more ideas for preserving more of your home cooking. Long hair must be secured. You will also need a towel or pot holder to carry your hot jar home. Come join the fun while learning.
