Merv Faulkner is a teacher of chemistry and is the Dover Shockwave Robotics coach at Dover High School. Mr. Faulkner retired as Chief Radioman in 1995 from the United States Navy after serving twenty-one years. He served on three submarines, one surface ship and several shore stations.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry with a minor in Oceanography from Old Dominion University in 2002. He has been teaching chemistry and mathematics for fourteen years. Mr. Faulkner’s interests include: long-distance hiking, rugby, and world travel.

Critical Thinking and the Constitution

Hatha Yoga Beginner Class

This yoga class will focus on breathing techniques, stretching and relaxation.  Students need to be physically able to perform the postures taught.  Balancing aids are used to go deeper into the connective tissue and into the stretch.  Yoga is a way to explore the mind and body connection.  Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.  Also recommended a foam block, a tie and a kneeling pad as props when needed.

Due to popular demand during a "United in Song" session, this class focuses exclusively on the timeless vocal harmony music of the 1950s and early 1960s prior to the British Invasion. Did you always wish you could sing like the Platters, the Drifters, Dion and the Belmonts, and other similar groups when you were growing up? Or are you a singer interested in exploring a genre of music that was all about the vocals? In this class, we will learn harmony parts to a variety of familiar doo-wop classics. Interested students will have an opportunity to sing lead vocals as well. The class is open to anyone, even if you have never sung in any form before. Bring your voice and a smile, and let's sing some good old doo-wop!

VMware Certified Instructor (VCI#30921) for the past 10 year.  Fabian has taught over 200 classes on VMware programs amounting to a few thousand technicians he has interfaced with.  He was an IT administrator for one of VMware's first VARs, Foedusgroup LLC which was eventually purchased by VMware when he then became a VMware Certified Instructor.  He also formed in 2007 PNT Technologies, LLC to handle subcontracting to VMware.

Mike has been playing harmonica since the age of fifteen. Years ago he left the seacoast area of Maine, moving to the deep south.  This move influenced his love of rural blues.  Accompanied by his wife Bev, Mike performs in public schools, retirement centers and public concerts bringing his love of the harmonica to special need students and the general population in for the form of concerts and harmonica workshops.  During the International Paralympics in 1996 in Atlanta, GA Mike and Bev were part of the Very Special Arts performances.  They also participated in the 1999 International Very Special Arts Conference in Los Angeles, CA representing Maine and Georgia.

First 50 Pages

Is your story opening fierce enough to grab the attention of readers, editors, or agents?  Do you have difficulty juggling voice, character, premise, setting, dialogue, conflict, point of view, style, and theme and blend them together seamlessly for a gripping beginning?  In this writing workshop, we will examine your story idea by deconstructing the first page, evaluating your scene structure, break down your first act into story beats, and make sure your first fifty pages are fueled with enough narrative thrust to keep up the pace and enough emotional depth to get readers to care about what happens to your characters.  Workshop structure will involve peer feedback on your first fifty pages.  A private Facebook group will be available for additional support between classes.  Writers must have a complete manuscript, and they must be prepared to revise.  Kate Johnson is an author and story coach.  You can find out more at her website: katejohnstonauthor.com.

A published author, professional writing coach, freelance writer and editor.   This summer she won first place in Riverrun Bookstore's short story contest and her story "Shattered," is published in the anthology Compass Points: Stories from Seacoast Authors. She was chosen to contribute an essay for Wolf Warriors, a pro-wolf anthology, published in 2014.  In 2011, her short story "Treasures" won first place and is published in The Greensilk Journal.  She has written a non-fiction ebook series based on her popular blog post series "Writer...Uninterrupted."  The first book of the series, Handbook for the Emergin Writer, was published in July 2015, and is the foundation for this particular class.

In this session you will receive an overview of keeping bees with brief presentation about the time, commitment and financial considerations involved with this hobby.  EAS certified Master Beekeeper, Brian Pride, will review the equipment necessary to establish you own hive and options for placement of hives at various locations.  Seasonal management of hives, pests and diseases and products of the hive will be discussed.  This is an interactive program, with time allotted for demonstrations, questions and answers.
