Bhuvaneshwari and Anuradha
Bhuvaneshwari is from southern Karnataka, India, and has been in Dover for four years. Anuradha is from northern Karnataka; she has been here for almost six years. Both women speak Hindi, English, and their mother tongue, Kannada.
Bhuvi and Anu are very happy to be students at Dover Adult Learning Center. Both women are in Level 4 ESL Class; they are also taking Grammar Class and Computer Class. Anu’s three-year-old daughter Shreeya enjoys time in DALC Childcare. Teacher Bill Badgley says, “These two women are a total pleasure to have in class, always asking good questions and learning something new every day. The reverse is also true—I learn a lot from them.”
Bhuvi says, “Before coming, we were sitting at home without activities. Mentally and physically, we are active now.”
Anu says, “It was a gift to know about this place, not sitting idle at home.”
And, through collaboration between DALC and the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire, Bhuvi and Anu (along with other ESL students) have been working on a multicultural exhibit, An Immigrant Alphabet, now showing at the museum. Anu is thankful for “the good opportunity to present our culture and heritage.”
